Primary Purpose:

Provide instructional assistance to students for in-person, distance and virtual learning, under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Work with individual students or small groups. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities/learning activities in the Marlin Innovation Lab

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate

Must have met formal academic assessment or associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning

Valid Texas educational aide certificate or willingness to obtain

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with children

Strong communication and organizational skills

Experience with a variety of tools and fabrication equipment (woodworking, welding, plasma cutting, etc).

 

Experience:

Some experience with construction,fabrication or building trades

Familiarity with 3D printing, basic CAD programs, CNC programs, equipment and project based learning platforms

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  1. Provide instruction to students under the direction of the certified teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  2. Ensure safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment at all times. Monitor student activity and equipment use to uphold all safety standards and best practices.
  3. Support Learning: Follow directions from the lead teacher to prepare, organize, and manage materials and equipment for daily student projects.
  4. Student Interaction:Work alongside students to encourage creativity, teach basic tool use, and model professional behavior.
  5. Technology Integration: Assist in the use of 3D printers, basic CAD software, and other technology-based tools.
  6. Project management: Help manage group dynamics, encourage collaboration, and support students as they bring their ideas to life.
  7. Adaptability:  Be flexible to adjust to daily schedules, shifting project priorities, and diverse student needs.
  8. Assist directly with inventory of equipment and consumables, firmware updates on computers and equipment, troubleshooting and fixing tools and equipment.care, and maintenance of equipment.
  9. Help certified teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  10. Provide assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

  1. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including common areas as needed. 
  2. Make certified teachers aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure dust, chemicals, noise, vibration, possible hazards; work around machinery with moving parts.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

 

Regular on-time attendance is an essential function of this position.
